Richard Mourdock opposes direct election of senators
He’s also known as the Tea Party backed challenger who beat Dick Lugar in the GOP primary, a Senator known for compromise, pragmatism, integrity in calling out foreign leaders even if they were our allies and disarmament between the US and Russia by declaring “Compromise should involve the Democrats coming to our side.” followed by a deluge of outside money from conservative groups from the Chamber of Commerce, the the Koch brothers Americans for prosperity to Karl Rover’s American Crossroads.
As with all GOP voting legislation passed or proposed in the past two years, helping American democracy means making it as undemocratic with as few voters as possible. Yes, let’s repeal the 17th amendment, who needs direct representation of their Senators in the modern world. Also it’s not like before the 17th amendment Senate seats were often left vacated for extended periods of time because state governments that were divided between the parties couldn’t agree on anyone to elect. What better way to represent your state!
